Associate Professor Nigel Dickson
Nigel has broad research interests in the area of health science. He is involved in national surveillance of HIV infection and AIDS, and special prevalence surveys of HIV infection through the AIDS Epidemiology Group in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at the University of Otago. Nigel also studies sexual and reproductive health among the cohort enrolled in the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study. In addition, Nigel is involved in surveillance for uncommon childhood conditions through the New Zealand Paediatric Surveillance Unit, of which he is co-director. He has published extensively in a wide variety of medical journals.

Do you remember your first sexual experience? Information on early sexual experiences by people of different ages is often used to determine if changes in behaviour between generations have occurred. To draw valid conclusions, recall must be good and not vary over time. Associate Professor Nigel Dickson examines these changes using data from the Dunedin Study.
